What is a preposition? A preposition is a part of speech like a noun or a verb. It is a word placed before a noun, pronoun, phrase or clause to show its relationship to some other word in a sentence.
When we need a preposition, we often have to use a prepositional phrase. This is a group of two or more words that begin with a preposition and end with a noun or pronoun. The noun or pronoun at the end of the phrase is called the object of the preposition. Every preposition must have an object.
