A preposition is a word placed before a noun, pronoun, phrase, or clause to show its relationship to some other words in a sentence.
When we need a preposition, we often have to use a prepositional phrase. A prepositional phrase is a group of two or more words that begin with a preposition and end with a noun or pronoun. The noun or pronoun at the end of the phrase is called the object of the preposition. Every preposition must have an object.
Here are some common prepositions:
? about, above, across, before, behind
? beside, down, in, into, on
? over, to, toward, under, until
