Excerpt
Alaska is located far away from the continental United States and is a peninsula jutting out from the northwest corner of Canada. As a peninsula, much of Alaska is surrounded by water, namely the Artic Ocean to the north, the Bering Sea to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The eastern tail of Alaska occupies a long narrow strip of land between Canada to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. This narrow strip is the location of the state?s capital, Juneau.
The Aleutian Islands are a chain of three hundred volcanic islands that dot the northern Pacific Ocean traveling westward from the southwestern corner of Alaska. These islands stretch westward across the ocean until they become the Commander Islands which are owned by Russia.
