To reinforce the proper use of articles, the, a or an. Help children develop a connection between the right or wrong sound of a sentence.
• Have students rewrite sentences using the proper article.
• To help them develop a listening ear to hear when an article is being used as improper grammar.
A and an are only used with singular nouns. A good rule to remember is that A is used before words that begin with a consonant. An is used before words that begin with vowels - a, e, i, o, or u.
A train makes a loud whistle. An owl gives a loud hoot.
