Benjamin Harrison was born in North Bend, Ohio on August 20, 1833 to a large family where he was the one of eight children. His grandfather, William Henry Harrison, had been the ninth President of the United States and his father served in the U. S. Congress. His family lived on the former president?s estate and Harrison spent hours in his grandfather?s library. His early schooling included tutoring at home. He attended a local college for two years then transferred to Miami University in Ohio.
