Thousands of years ago, people wanted to be able to keep track of time too. They needed to know when food would be abundant, and they wanted to keep track of their holidays and celebrations.
The Egyptians who lived by the Nile River depended on the river for irrigation of their fields. Only once in the year does the Nile River flood its banks sending needed water into the fields. The farmers wanted to be able to know when it was the river?s time to overflow. They made one of the first calendars. It marked flood-time, seed-time, and harvest-time
