A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense. It needs two things:
1. A subject: who or what is doing the action;
2. A predicate: the action done by the subject.
? Jenny baked a cake.
This is a complete thought. It makes a sentence. Do you notice how the word Jenny begins? It begins with a capital letter. Proper nouns or names always begin with a capital letter. But what if our sentence does not begin with a proper noun?
? The cake tasted good.
This sentence begins with the word the. The is not a proper noun, so why is it capitalized? Sentences always begin with a capital letter. Always.
