Conjunctions join words, phrases, and clauses together in a sentence. Some common conjunctions are and, but, and or. There are three types of conjunctions:
1. Coordinating conjunctions. This type of conjunction joins equal parts together: words with words, phrases with phrases, and clauses with clauses.
2. Subordinating conjunctions. This type of conjunctions is used to join a dependent clause to an independent clause. It joins unequal parts. Some common subordinating conjunctions are: after, as, before, for, if, than, until, when, where, whether, while.
3. Correlative conjunctions. This type of conjunction is used in a pair. An example of this might be a pair like either?or.
