Conjunctions join words, phrases or clauses together. We use conjunctions every day. The most common conjunctions are and, but, and or.
There are three types of conjunctions:
1. Coordinating conjunctions. These conjunctions join words, phrases, or clauses together. They can also join two independent clauses together to make a compound sentence. A compound sentence is a sentence made from two independent thoughts. Each part can stand alone to make a complete sentence.
Coordinating conjunctions always join equal parts together: words with words, phrases with phrases, or clauses with clauses.
