Excerpt
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense. There are four types:
1. Declarative sentences or Statements tell us something or state a fact. Most of the sentences we speak, read or write are declarative sentences. A declarative sentence always ends with a period.
? The Hoover Dam provides drinking water for several states.
2. Interrogative sentences ask a question. They usually begin with an asking word such as who, what, when, where and why, and they end with a question mark.
? Did you know the Hoover Dam was once called Boulder Dam?
3. Exclamatory sentences express strong emotion. They can show excitement, sadness, joy or fear. Exclamatory sentences always end with an exclamation mark.
