Adjectives and adverbs can be called the describing parts of speech. They modify or describe other words in a sentence.
Adjectives are words that describe nouns and pronouns. That?s it. They cannot modify any other part of speech. Adjectives tell what kind, how many, or which one.
? The blue bucket fell into the sandbox.
? Six blue buckets were in the sandbox.
? That bucket is in the sandbox.
Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. They tell us how, when, or where.
? The horse trotted slowly down the path.
? The horse trotted at an extremely slow pace. (This is an adverb phrase)
? The horse trotted very slowly down the path.
