Georgia is located on the southern Atlantic Coast of the United States. Georgia is separated from South Carolina to the northeast by the Savannah River. Tennessee and North Carolina share Georgia?s northern border; Alabama makes the western border while Florida lies to the south. The Okefenokee Swamp covers 950 square miles of southern Georgia near the Atlantic Ocean; this is the second largest freshwater swamp in the United States.

They then continued for nearly two more years exploring present-day South Carolina, Tennessee, to the Mississippi River and beyond. They encountered several Native American groups in Georgia. These Native American groups eventually merged into two main tribes.
