Verbs are the action words in a sentence. Action verbs are words such as ride, throw, play, jump, and draw.
Action verbs show action, but not just physical action. They can also show quieter actions like dream, read, think, and breathe.
In a sentence, the verb tells what the subject does. A verb tells what happens in the sentence. Without a verb, a sentence cannot make sense. Read the following sentence:
? John rode.
The word rode is the verb. It tells what John did. John rode. Action verbs can be divided into two different kinds:
1. Transitive verbs
2. Intransitive verbs
