Conjunctions join words, phrases and clauses together in a sentence. Some common conjunctions are and, but, and or. There are three types of conjunctions:
1. coordinating
2. subordinating
3. correlative
Coordinating conjunctions join equal parts together: words with words, phrases with phrases, and clauses with clauses.
Correlative conjunctions are used in pairs - for instance either/or.
Subordinating conjunctions are used to join a dependent clause to an independent clause. They join unequal parts.
