Excerpt
No matter how small or how large a jellyfish is, it does not have a solid skeleton to support its body. A jellyfish?s shape is maintained by the water that fills their inner tissues and an outer layer is stretched over these inner tissues. Water is essential to maintaining a jellyfish?s shape. If a jellyfish it out of the water, it looks like a simple lump of jelly because the inner tissues are no longer filled with water, and the jellyfish can not maintain its shape.
