Excerpt
Every sentence must have two things:
1. A Subject: who or what the sentence is about. A simple subject is the main noun or pronoun that names the subject.
2. A Predicate: what the subject does or is.
? Seagulls love the ocean. Subject = seagulls
? Mortimer Parks lives by the ocean. Subject = Mortimer Parks
Subjects can be one word or more than one word. If a subject is a proper noun, like Niagara Falls, it is still considered a simple subject. A person?s whole name or a place name would be considered a simple subject too.
