Most verbs tell us about actions, but some verbs are helping verbs ? they help the main verb in the sentence ? and some verbs are linking verbs ? they link to a word which tells us something about the subject of the sentence. In other words, they show the subject being something (being happy, being sad, being strong, being tasty, etc.), so these verbs are also called state of being verbs.
