Tom runs, Mary shouts, Peter plays. The underlined words are verbs. They tell us what Tom, Mary and Peter are doing, but they do not tell us much about the way they do it. That is why we need adverbs. For example, we can say: Tom runs quickly, Mary always shouts, Peter plays indoors.
