In 1751, the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly in Philadelphia ordered a bell for the State House, known today as Independence Hall. The bell was ordered from Whitechapel Foundry in England with special instructions to include a passage from a book in the Bible called Leviticus. Weighing over 2,000 pounds, the Liberty Bell has the following inscription from a passage in Leviticus, a book of the Bible, on it: ?Proclaim Liberty Throughout All The Land unto All the Inhabitants Thereof.?
