Excerpt
The liver is unique in the fact that it has a double supply of blood. It receives oxygen-rich blood from the heart through the hepatic artery. It also receives blood containing digested food from the intestines through the portal vein. The liver filters over a liter of blood each minute and holds around 13% of the body?s blood at any given time.
The liver is also the only organ in the human body that can regenerate itself into a complete liver from as little as 25% of liver tissue.
