About the Michael Jordan Lesson
To introduce Michael Jordan to the students using a short reading passage with corresponding comprehension worksheet.
• Students will be introduced to the life of Michael Jordan.
• Students will gain an interest in athletes who have played a significant role in sports.
• Students will practice their reading comprehension abilities.
Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 17, 1963 to James and Deloris. While a young child, Michael?s family moved to North Carolina. He attended high school at Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. As a child, Michael was very active, playing football, basketball and football.
During his sophomore year of high school, Michael tried out for the Varsity basketball team but was cut. Devastated, Michael broke down and cried. His mother, Deloris, encouraged him to use what he viewed as failure to motivate himself to get better for the following year. Michael worked extremely hard on the basketball court all year long. He practiced shooting and dribbling, determined to prove to his coach and teammates that he belonged on the basketball court.
