Nouns All Around
About the Nouns All Around Lesson
This is another lesson about recognizing the differences between common nouns and proper nouns. Children are shown how nouns work in speech and print.
• To confirm that children understand the difference between common nouns and proper nouns.
• To give children another opportunity to write their own common and proper nouns.
• To show how proper nouns of more than two words are capitalized.
A noun is a word that names a person, place, or thing.
? Common nouns name any person, place, or thing.
? Proper nouns name a particular person, place, or thing.
Proper nouns are always capitalized. Common nouns that begin a sentence are also capitalized.
