The Past Tense

Summary
This lesson introduces the past tense. Activity A gives further practice in changing present tense to past tense, using regular verbs. Activity B requires the children to identify the past tense of a verb and indicate whether it is regular or irregular.

Objectives
• The children will understand that the past tense can be shown by adding ?ed? to most verbs.

• The children will be able to recognize present and past forms of verbs.

• The children will be able to distinguish between regular and irregular verbs in the past simple tense.

In the English language we have three tenses. The present tense tells what we are doing now. The future tense tells what we will be doing in the future. The past tense tells what we did in the past.
