A preposition is a word that we place before a noun, pronoun, phrase, or clause to show its relationship to some other word in a sentence.
When we need a preposition, we often have to use a prepositional phrase. This is a group of two or more words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun. The noun or pronoun at the end of the phrase is called the object of the preposition. Every preposition must have an object. Prepositions tell one of four things:
1. Location: where something is.
2. Direction: where something is going.
3. Time: when something will happen.
4. Relationship: the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word.
