Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4, 1913. Her given name was Rosa Louise McCauley. Her parents separated, and she lived with her mother, Leona Edwards. They lived in Pine Level, which is located just outside of Montgomery, Alabama. Rosa was homeschooled until she was eleven. At eleven, she was enrolled in the Industrial school for girls. This school was located in Montgomery, and Rosa took vocational and academic courses. Rosa later went to the Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes for her secondary education, but she had to drop out to care for her grandmother and her mother.
