The most common way of sorting information is alphabetically. Sorting information alphabetically means sorting information based on the placement of letters in the alphabet. Each letter is compared with the corresponding letter of another piece of information. Whichever piece of information has the letter that appears highest in the alphabet (closest to the beginning) is placed in front of the other items.
Cats, truck, airplane, phone, mustard, sofa, and table would be alphabetically sorted as follows: airplane, cats, mustard, phone, sofa, table, and truck. The first letter of each word is examined.
