The importance of eating specific foods to stay healthy and avoid certain diseases was recognized before we even knew what vitamins were. The Ancient Egyptians found out that feeding someone liver could help cure night blindness. We now know that a lack of Vitamin A can cause night blindness. The Chinese also believed that certain foods kept the body balanced and healthy. This was discussed in one of the most important ancient books of Chinese medicine called the ?Yellow Emperor s Classic of Internal Medicine,? which is also known as the ?Neijing.? Throughout history, many other cultures and people have recognized the importance of food for the health of the human body.
