Warren Harding was born in a small town named Blooming Grove, Ohio on November 2, 1865, the oldest of eight children. Both of his parents were doctors, an unusual circumstance in 1865. He spent a typical small town childhood that he cherished and parlayed into down-home appeal on the campaign trail. College was not as formal as it is today; Harding entered Ohio Central College at age fourteen and graduated in 1882 at the age of seventeen. These colleges prepared teachers and Harding taught briefly in a country school near Marion, Ohio.
