Wisconsin is located in the upper Midwest of the United States. Wisconsin has borders of Illinois to the south; Iowa and Minnesota to the west; Lake Superior and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to the northeast; and Lake Michigan to the east. The St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers form most of the boundary with Minnesota and the Mississippi River marks the border with Iowa.
History of Wisconsin
Some of the first settlers in the Wisconsin area were Woodland peoples. These peoples were Native Americans that lived in villages and raised the basic crops of corn, squash and beans. The group of Native Americans most associated with Wisconsin is the Menominee. Their legends indicate that their first man originated near Green Bay in Lake Michigan.
